My New Favorite Knife

For years I've been a fan of all sorts of knives. One of my favorite is the lagioule picnic knife. I'm also a big fan of Case knives (who isn't?!) and of course I like having my assortments of K-Bars. But my new favorite is what I wanted to share today for any of you that might be in to bushcraft and hiking and camping.

Lately I've started seeing a lot about the Morakniv Companion fixed-blade. These knives are solid-blade, versatile bushcraft knives that are really a good bargain.

You can read all about them and see if they are for you. Maybe you're looking for something different for your needs but if you have an interest in a good bargain-priced knife take a chance on the Morakniv. This one with a sheath retails for less than $20!

When I started looking on Youtube for videos about the knife I ran across this one  where this guy shows you how take the knife and make two enhancements to it. Firstly, he shows you know to sand the spine so that it has a sharper edge for using with a firestarter tool. But the really neat thing that the majority of the video is about is how to use sandpaper to sharpen the knife. This guy starts with like 80-grit and goes all the way up to 400-grit to get the blade razor sharp. He finishes it up with a leather strap to really get it shiny. Anyway. that was a great video from Kyle Noseworthy.

There are also cool videos like this one one how to make a survival set-up using your Morakniv as a base. Pretty cool to be able to add firestarter, paracord, etc. to the sheath for outdoors situations.

So there appears to be a whole new sub-culture I'm getting in to with bushcraft knives and other assorted gear that I'm really excited about! Let me know what your favorite bushcraft knife is and I'll check it out!
